- M&M is founded
Two brothers, JC and KC Mahindra along with Ghulam Mohammed set up 'Mahindra & Mohammed' on the 2nd of October, 1945.
- M&M begins steel trading
1949
- The Jeep hits Indian shores
75 Jeeps come in from Willys Overland Export Corporation, USA in CKD condition, and are assembled at Mazagon, Bombay.
- M&M and Mitsubishi strike and Iron and Steel deal
5,000 tons of steel sourced to build wagons.
1956
- M&M goes public
The company announces going public on June 15, 1955, and lists its shares on the Bombay Stock Exchange in 1956.
1961
- M&M ties up with International Harvester, USA
Mahindra joins hands with the US manufacturer of agricultural machinery, construction equipment, trucks, automobiles, and household and commercial products, for the manufacture of tractors.
1962
- Mahindra Ugine Steel Company formed
M&M and Ugine Kuhlmann, France, come together to form MUSCO, Mahindra Ugine Steel Company, manufacturing alloy. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru visits the factory.
1963
- Keshub
Mahindra appointed Chairman
After the demise of the company's co-founder, KC Mahindra, Mr. Keshub Mahindra becomes the second Chairman of M&M Ltd.
- ITCI is
formed.
The International Tractor Company of India (ITCI), a JV with International Harvester Company and Voltas Ltd. is formed with a license to manufacture 3,500 tractors.
1964
- The Pope arrives in a Mahindra Jeep
M&M specially manufactured the Jeep that drove His Holiness Pope Paul VI and Valerian Cardinal Gracias as they blessed thousands during the Eucharistic Congress in Bombay on the 3rd of December, 1964.
1965
- UV and Tractor factories come up in Bombay
Mahindra shuts down the factory in Mazgaon and establishes a plant in Kandivali to consolidate its operations for the manufacture of UVs and tractors.
1977
- ITCI merges with M&M Ltd.
The very successful International Tractor Company of India merges with M&M to become its tractor division.
1979
- M&M ties up with Peugeot, France
M&M receives a license from Automobiles Peugeot France to manufacture XDP 4.90 diesel engines. The assembly of Peugeot engines commences in Ghatkopar.
1983
- M&M is a leader in the Indian Tractor Market
Mahindra becomes the largest selling tractor brand in India, and holds the position for four decades now.
1986
- Mahindra British Telecom formed
Mahindra enters the telecom IT services space as Mahindra British Telecom, a joint venture with British Telecom, UK, which went on to become 'Tech Mahindra'.
1991
- Mahindra Finance is incorporated
Maxi Motors Financial Services Limited was rechristened as Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited with a fresh Certificate of Incorporation.

- Mahindra Steel Service Centre Ltd. is born
Mahindra Steel Service Centre Limited is formed in association with Mitsubishi Corporation and Nisho Iwai Corporation of Japan.
